Casey’s Birthday

One of the reasons we headed down to Waseca for the night was to celebrate Casey’s birthday. His sister threw him a surprise party for his 31st since he did not have a party for his 30th last year. Here’s the birthday boy showing us his dance moves:
Mark & Melissa were in MN this weekend as well for a wedding, so they joined us in a night out downtown Waseca style while the kiddos were all home with Nana and Grandpa. The other reason we came down to Waseca for the night was to help butcher chickens on Saturday morning. I did not take many pictures this year, but we had a good crew helping. I think we cleaned up 70 birds in about 2.5 hours.

Water Water everywhere…

The last few days the southern part of MN received a lot of rain and by a lot I mean like 10 inches in less than 24 hours. That is a lot of water! When it rains this much the water has to run somewhere, so ditches and streams all of a sudden start to look more like rivers. We were heading down to Jon’s parents house for the night so we were able to see the abundance of water all over and this was a good 24 hours after the rain had stopped so some had already begun to run off. Jon’s parent’s side yard definitely had standing water. Water was up so high it was flooding the chicken coop.
This is not the best picture but across the road is normally a field, but looked more like a lake.

Feed My Starving Children

Tonight I had the wonderful experience of volunteering with some of my co-workers at a wonderful organization here in the Twin Cities called Feed My Starving Children. The night was organized by my co-worker Russ. We had about 10 people in our group, but were just one of 3 groups there. So there was about 30-35 people total who volunteered. What did we do you ask?

Well we put together dried food packets that get sent to countries where malnutrition and starvation are an issue. The packets we made were all going to Haiti. Food packets are made up of a protein powder, dried veggies, soy, and rice. There was 200 Calories in one serving and there were 6 servings within one bag. The children that receive these donations are now able to get one good meal a day.

They said we would be amazed at the amount of food we were able to package and get ready for shipping but WOW I was floored. We were able to pack a total of 118 boxes, which equated to 25,488 meals!!!! Just this food we prepared tonight would be able to feed 70 children for a year!

These guys sure are.... (Sidenote: The Vikings have started the season 0-2... and there is another regional team that shall remain nameless that has started 2-0. SOOOO, don't be suprised if the color Brad is wearing changes to Green & Gold in the near future at mama's doing)

Labor Day weekend

We did some other random stuff over Labor Day weekend as well....

Made faces at the camera.

Learned to stand in the crib.

Went on a picnic.

Did some geocaching.

Learned to drink from a straw.

Threw the pigskin around with the family

Caught up with Uncle Christopher (home from Alaska for the weekend, he's in the army)

and did alot of playing.

MN State Fair

The end of the summer it definitely near and one way to tell is that it's time for the MN State Fair. I am a big fan of the fair, walking around, people watching, seeing the animals, and eating things on a stick. However, Jon usually wants to avoid these same crowded type situations like the plague. This year it was different, not only because my parents were in town, but he also wanted to take Brad for the first time.

We decided to go on Friday of Labor Day weekend and we definitely picked a good day, since crowds were to a minimum. I think it was due to the weather being cooler (we pulled out the sweatshirts) and the threat for rain (which it never did). We had a great day and Brad was awesome the whole day. I think he likes people watching too!

We rode the bus to the fair,

Watched the Wild West Show,

Shared the biggest corn dog I have ever seen (yum!),

Ate things on a stick (deep fried twinkie-double yum!!),

Checked out the animals,

Enjoyed a chocolate malt from the dairy barn (triple yum!!!),

And ran into friends.
