After a great day at the races in Iowa on Saturday, I woke up Sunday morning at Jon's parents house feeling a little funny. We decided that we were going to head home to get some things done versus staying for the ice cream social at church later that afternoon and boy I am glad we decided to head home.
As we were driving home I was having some pretty good cramping like pains in my lower abdomen and then also over on my right side. When we got home it had not gotten any better and was also now hurting in my back on the right side, so I called the doctor. She said to lay down and take it easy for a couple hours drinking plenty of water and then give her a call back if nothing changed. I laid down for 2 hours with a heating pad on my back to try & ease the muscle pain, but that did not seem to help. When I called back she said to head into the hospital to get checked out.
I am glad that we headed in when we did, as by the time we got to the hospital the pain had gotten even worse, I could hardly walk. We went up to labor & delivery and started in a monitoring room to get all the "tests" done. They first checked to see if I was in pre-term labor, which it turns out I was not. They also did some blood work to make sure everything was alright there. With the pain being on my right side & around my back they figured I might have a kidney infection or kidney stones. Either way the pain was pretty bad, so they gave me some oral medication to start...that didn't help. So she started an IV for me....and gave me some morphine. This is when I found out that I am allergic to morphine. It hurt & burned pretty bad going in and then my arm turned all red & blotchy. Good thing was she only had given me a small dose to start with so I did not have too much in my system. I also went down to get an ultra sound to confirm their suspicions of kidney stones, which came back to be definitely positive as they could see 2 distinctive stones, plus my kidney & tubes were inflamed.

Time to check me into a room as I would be staying for awhile. This was about the time that they gave me some other pain medication, which was on a drip & I could give myself every 10 minutes or as needed. It was definitely needed! Since I am about 25 weeks pregnant, they had me admitted to stay in the labor & delivery area of the hospital. This was my first time ever staying in a hospital and the nurses in the L&D were great! I had 2 wonderful nurses on Sunday, an okay one on Monday, and totally awesome one on Monday night, and then another great one on Tuesday. Its funny since they are on for only 10-12 hours shifts, so I got to meet a lot of people.

My 2 night nurses were completely awesome, as night time was by far the worse of my pain time. It had to do a lot with the fact that I had to give myself doses of the pain medication every 10 minutes....but then I would fall asleep for a little bit, forget to push the button, and wake up in even more pain. Yikes. My Monday night nurse, stopped in every 15-20 minutes to wake me up to remind me to push the button, she was such a sweetheart.
Well the plan was to let me attempt to pass the 2 stones on my own, however the doctors thought they would be too large to pass, so if that did not happen I would have to have surgery to place a stint to open the area to hopefully let them pass easier or to just release pressure on the kidney. The urologist was almost 99% sure that I would need the stints put in on Wednesday. However, after a lot of pain over those few days, I was able to pass the stones on Tuesday morning!!!! YEAH! They sent it down for testing but since my pain was diminishing they were pretty sure that that was it, so I was released on Tuesday afternoon.
I have to say big THANK YOU to my wonderful husband, JON, who stayed with me almost the whole time, just leaving once or twice to swing home to get stuff or do something for work. He made me feel so much better having someone there to talk to, love on me, and of course help me to the bathroom like 1,000 times. I love you honey!
